Explosive start to AFL season: injury, big hits
Carlton star Dale Thomas suffered a dislocated shoulder and Richmond’s Brett Deledio was reported in an explosive first minute of the AFL season.
Eight seconds after the opening bounce of Thursday night’s MCG blockbuster, Deledio came off the square and collected Simon White high.
The Tigers utility was reported immediately.

The ball then went into Carlton’s attack, where Thomas tried to take possession.
Richmond first-gamer Kamdyn McIntosh tackled Thomas, who was taken heavily to ground.
As Thomas returned to his feet, his left shoulder looked terrible and he quickly left the field.
A few seconds later, ex-Western Bulldogs forward and Carlton recruit Liam Jones kicked the first goal of the season.
Down in the rooms, the Carlton club doctor was able to put Thomas’ shoulder back in place immediately.
He was subbed out of the game and debutant Clem Smith took his place.
Thomas will have scans on Friday to determine the seriousness of the injury.
Deledio’s high contact also did not look good and the match review panel will probably offer him a suspension.
