A car has plowed into a parked vehicle that was shielding US President Joe Biden’s motorcade while he and wife Jill were leaving his campaign headquarters in Delaware.

Neither the President nor his wife was injured.

The Bidens had just left his campaign headquarters in Wilmington after dining with members of his re-election team at the time, according to the White House press pool report late on Sunday (US time).

Moments after Biden responded to a question from a reporter, a silver sedan with Delaware license plates hit a vehicle that appeared to be shielding the rest of the motorcade at the intersection across from the headquarters entrance.

There was a loud bang and Biden could be seen standing at his vehicle with a surprised expression.

Television footage showed secret service agents escorting him to his car shortly after.

The silver sedan, which sustained damage to its bumper, was quickly surrounded by security officers after it stopped. Agents cornered the car and pulled weapons on the driver, who held his hands up.

The Bidens returned safely to their home in Wilmington following the incident, the witness said.
