A six-day march by tens of thousands of people to highlight the plight of hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip has reached Jerusalem on its way to the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The demonstrators, who set out from Tel Aviv 70km away on Tuesday, carried the blue and white Israeli flag and flew yellow balloons symbolising solidarity with the hostages.

Many carried pictures of the people abducted by Hamas on October 7.

“Now, now, now,” they chanted.

One banner read: “Humanitarian aid only in return for the release of all hostages.”

The marchers are calling on the government to reach an urgent deal to release the hostages.

About 240 people were seized in the raid.

Four have been released, one freed and the bodies of two women have been found by Israeli troops entering the Gaza Strip.
