Third quake strikes New Caledonia region

An earthquake of magnitude 6.8 has struck south-east of the Loyalty Islands in New Caledonia, the United States Geological Survey says.
Friday morning’s quake was at a depth of 10 kilometres. It was the third earthquake of magnitude 6.8 or over in the region in 24 hours.
There was no risk of a tsunami in the region following the tremor, the US tsunami warning system said.
