Charles Manson, the notorious leader of the Manson Family cult that murdered pregnant actress Sharon Tate and six others in 1969, died of a heart attack and complication from his battle with cancer.

Manson’s death certificate, obtained by TMZ, reveals the 83-year-old died in custody of an acute cardiac arrest, respiratory failure and colon cancer.

Manson passed away on November 19 at a hospital in California after he was transferred from Corcoran State Prison, where he was serving nine life sentences, when his condition deteriorated.

The California Department of Corrections would only say at the time that Manson had died of natural causes.

According to TMZ, the death certificate did not list the names of Manson’s mother or father.

The remains of the Manson family, meanwhile, are competing for control of the cult leader’s estate as his body remains unburied.

The AP reports Manson’s relatives and longtime associates are battling for the rights to his remains and belongings, sparking fears they might create a shrine for the man behind a string of psychotic murders.

The value of Manson’s belongings — said to include music, artwork, writings and at least two guitars — is unclear.

One person seeking control of Manson’s estate is his purported grandson Jason Freeman, who flew into California with a documentary film crew after Manson died last month.

His effort is challenged by Manson associate Michael Channels, who exchanged letters and visited the killer in prison. Channels has filed a two-page will in court dated Valentine’s Day 2002 that purportedly leaves everything to him.

In the summer of 1969, Manson brainwashed his followers to murder in what was part of a plan to incite a race war.

Manson ordered four of his followers, Susan Atkins, Linda Kasabian, Patricia Krenwinkel and Charles ‘Tex’ Watson, to go to pregnant Hollywood actress Sharon Tate’s address with instruction to kill everyone inside,

They murdered four people, including an eight-and-a-half months pregnant Tate.

The following night, August 10, Manson’s followers murdered a supermarket executive and his wife.

Manson was also convicted over the death of Gary Hinman, an associate of the ‘Family’ cult, on July 27, and of the bludgeoning death of a Hollywood stuntman on August 26.

His ‘Manson Family’ brutally killed nine people at four locations in July and August 1969, obeying his order to slay “beautiful people”.
