Rapper Kanye West has visited Trump Tower for a meeting with Republican President-elect Donald Trump, firing up social media and fuelling speculation West may have discussed performing at Mr Trump’s inauguration.

West and Mr Trump posed for photographers in the lobby of Trump Tower after meeting privately upstairs.

It was the first major outing by West since he was released on November 30 after a week in a Los Angeles psychiatric hospital with an unexplained condition, and quickly became the top-trending topic on Twitter.

Mr Trump added that the two had talked about “Life. We discussed life”.

West, looking solemn and sporting a new blonde hairdo, gave no explanation for their meeting, saying only: “I’m just here to take a picture right now.”

He then tweeted “#2024” sparking further speculation about the artist’s intention to run for president in the future.

West announced at the VMAs last year that he had decided to run for president in 2020.

After Trump’s success at the election, hundreds of West’s fans have called on the hip hop star to make good on his promise.

“If Trump was able to become president, then for sure Kanye will win in 2020,” one said.
