The final stages of Donald Trump’s election campaign have been littered with embarrassing accusations of bullying, sexual assault and misconduct, but now the Republican candidate has been busted praising his opponent.
Mr Trump, who last week set the internet alight when he referred to Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton as a “nasty woman” during the final presidential debate, has made public calls for “crooked” Ms Clinton to be put in prison.
He has also referred to the former secretary of state as “the most dangerous person to run for president in the modern history of America”.
But in a 2008 interview with NY1 News, Mr Trump has been caught practically gushing about his opponent.
Watch the footage below:
“I think she’s going to go down at a minimum as a great Senator,” he says in the footage.
“I thought that they roughed her up pretty good, Hillary’s a very smart woman, a very tough woman, that’s fine, but she’s also a very smart woman.”
“I know Hillary and her husband Bill Clinton very well and they’re both fine people.”
Mr Trump was in fact full of praise for former president Bill Clinton, despite painting him as a sexual predator during the second presidential debate.
“Bill Clinton was a great president,” he says in the interview.
“Look at what happened during the Clinton years, we had no war, the economy was doing great, everybody was happy.
“A lot of people hated him because they were jealous as hell.”
