NZ police filmed throwing boy from bike

A video has appeared online showing a New Zealand police officer throwing a teenager off his bike and pinning him against a fence.

The video, which was posted on Facebook, was posted by a friend of the victim, Matthew Lamar, 13, on Saturday night.

The group of kids were reportedly having a music battle with sirens in the street in Mangere Bridge, south Auckland, before the incident.

Before the footage was taken, the two police officers reportedly told Mr Lamar to get off his bike and exchanged words before the teenager swore at the officers.

The police officer asked Matthew to get off the road and Matthew swore at him,” Alex Eliu, a witness told Stuff.co.nz

“That’s when they pulled him over and said ‘get off your bike’. He didn’t listen, so the officer threw him off.”

The boy was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car soon after.

New Zealand police have been notified of the incident and seeking further information.

“Until the full picture is established, we are unable to comment on what may have taken place,” a spokesperson said.

“It is important to note that as this video appears to start part-way through communication between police and the young person, the full context and circumstances leading up to the event are still yet to be determined.”
