The Australian woman accused of murdering a policeman in Bali will undergo a psychiatric examination on Friday morning (Bali time).

Sara Connor, 45, and her British boyfriend David Taylor underwent the third round of lengthy interrogations on Thursday.

The pair was detained for allegedly murdering local policeman Wayan Sudarsa, who was found with 42 wounds to his body, including his head and neck, on Kuta Beach on August 19.

Connor is facing a number of charges, including murder, but her lawyer Erwin Siregar said if she was convicted of being an accomplice to murder she could receive a three-year maximum sentence.

Mr Siregar said during a third round of interrogation his client was asked 45 questions mainly relating to the evidence gathered by police and recognised some of the objects.

“I’m going to repeat them again, a purse, cigarette, button, SIM card and tax card. That’s all, the rest she knew nothing about,” he told reporters at the Denpasar police station.

The button came from clothes the suspects were accused of burning to cover up the crime.

Mr Siregar said it was Taylor’s idea to burn the clothes, not his client’s, as police have alleged.

“Sara said the one with the initiative to burn clothes came from David.”

“He gathers some branches, put the pants on top of the heap, then more branches and the lit it up using matches, then it got burnt. In this case Sara didn’t get involved at all.”

Taylor’s lawyer said his client burned the clothes but used matches provided by the Australian.

Taylor ‘too tired’ to undergo psych assessment

Lawyer Haposan Sihombing said the British man has asked not to be taken for psychiatric assessment today because he was “too tired” after last night interrogation.

He said Taylor alleges his Australian girlfriend was involved in the struggle with the policeman over his girlfriend’s missing bag.

“David said Sara’s hair was pulled and at one time the victim was on top of her,” Mr Shiombing said.

He said the couple was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

“From the fight it looked like when David was pushed away the victim punched his stomach and that’s when he said ‘F*** you, where is my bag?’

“It was a fight and he was under the influence of alcohol and Sara was there.”

Lawyers for both suspects say Connor cut up the policeman’s ID cards using scissors provided by her boyfriend.

Mr Siregar said that was not to destroy evidence but “because they didn’t want the cards to be found and misused by other people”.

The Australians lawyer said members of Connor’s family would begin arriving in Bali soon and she had spoken to them twice, although he did not understand the conversation because it was in Italian.

He said the 45-year-old had told investigators she “sympathises” with the family of the dead officer, Wayan Sudarasa.

“She said ‘I want to help the family of the victim, and I want to be with my family and I want to go home soon’,” Mr Siregar said.
