The lawyer for Byron Bay woman Sara Connor, who is being detained for alleged murder in Bali, says he believes police should be looking for more suspects in the case.

Connor and her partner, British man David Taylor, have been detained for allegedly murdering local policeman Wayan Sudarsa, who was found with 42 wounds to his body, including his head and neck, on Kuta Beach.

Police say Taylor has admitted attacking the policeman with a broken bottle.

Erwin Siregar told the ABC forensic evidence suggested more people were involved in the brutal beating of the man.

“This one is still debatable,” Mr Siregard said.

“There is a David, there is a Sara and there is three men — I don’t know who yet.”

He said money from the Australian woman’s stolen handbag was also missing and not part of police evidence.

“If I follow the two-time interrogation of Sara it looks like there are other people, and also then from the statement of the forensic expert I can say yes,” he said.

Late yesterday a local man found Sudarsa’s wallet and ID cards at a security post near Uluwatu in Bali’s south.

Police allege Connor took the items from the policeman’s body while he lay unconscious on the sand on Kuta beach.

They say the couple later cut up the cards, including the police identification, and dumped them in a rubbish bag.

Police allege the couple burned the clothes they had been wearing in bushes near Jimbaran.

On Jimbaran beach this morning, the family of the policeman gathered to pray.

His wife of 30 years told the ABC she hoped justice would prevail.

“I hope that all the perpetrators will immediately be arrested and punished in accordance to the act they’ve committed,” Ni Ketut Arsini said.

“The most important thing is that my husband was a good and honest man and very responsible to the family.”
