Aussie Ginger Jihadi weds UK teen in Syria

A Sydney teenager turned Islamic State fighter has reportedly married a British teen who fled the UK to join the terrorist group in Syria.

The UK Mail on Sunday newspaper says Abdullah Elmir, a former Bankstown student who left school to become a butcher, contacted the newspaper using encrypted text messages to confirm he had married Amira Abase, now 16.

She fled from the UK to Syria via Turkey with two friends in February this year intending to join ISIL.

Elmir, known as the Ginger Jihadi for his long red hair, has been used in ISIL propaganda films aimed at recruiting more Western fighters.

The Mail last week reported Abase tried to lure an undercover reporter posing as a British teen to travel to Syria and become a jihadi bride.

At the time, Elmir told the newspaper to stay away from Abase.

In his latest contact with the newspaper, Elmir allegedly praised the gunman behind last month’s massacre of 38 people, including 30 Britons in Tunisia, and threatened attacks on Britain.

He said: “Brothers that I know there (in the UK) are itching to do an attack.”

He added: “This is a direct threat”.
