Earthquake strikes off Solomons

A 6.9-magnitude earthquake has struck at a depth of 19 kilometres off the Solomon Islands in the Pacific.
The US Geological Survey says the quake hit on Thursday morning, some 184 kilometres from Lata and 487 kilometres from the capital Honiara.

“Based on all available data there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake,” the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said.
