The small nation of Papua New Guinea has been revealed as the most pornography-obsessed country in the world, according to a study of Google trends.

PNG has the greatest percentage of Google searches for the words “porn” and “pornography” of any country, followed by nations like Fiji, Trinidad and Tobago, Soloman Islands and Zimbabwe.

Eight out of the top 10 porn-obsessed countries were developing nations in Africa.

In Australia, South Australians were the biggest searchers for pornography, followed by Victorians and New South Welshmen.

University of Hawaii Pacific Centre for Sex and Society professor Milton Diamond told the ABC it was possible PNG’s conservative Christian values might be the driver of demand.

“For example in the US, Utah, which is a very conservative state, is the number one state to request pornography,” Dr Diamond said.

While PNG topped the country list, Google Trends showed New Delhi and Mumbai in India, and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia were the most porn-obsessed cities.

In America, Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas were the cities with the highest searches, while in the United Kingdom, Londoners and Dubliners made the top 10.
