The Lego Group confirmed that the Time Lord will appear in plastic brick form after the concept suggested by Dr Who fan Andrew Clark received the 10,000 votes it needed to be considered for production on the Lego Ideas website.

The BBC launched Doctor Who in 1963 and it is the world’s longest running sci-fi drama.

Currently starring Peter Capaldi as the Doctor and Jenna Coleman as his companion, the show has become a global phenomenon with a loyal and passionate fan base.

Calls for a Dr Who Lego set have been in circulation for almost as long as the program’s history.

A licensing agreement between BBC Worldwide and The Lego Group will see the new set available in all of the company’s key markets before the end of the year.

Mr Clark’s winning design featured a range of Doctors, companions and monsters across the show’s history, but fans will have to wait until later this year to discover exactly what will be produced
