An Indonesian woman accused of ordering a hit on her Australian husband will face charges carrying the death penalty.

Police on Thursday handed over their dossiers of evidence in the case of Julaikah Noor Aini, known as Noor Ellis, who is charged with plotting the murder of her businessman husband Robert Ellis.

She’s accused of deliberately and with planning, taking someone’s life.

Her five accomplices – including the men who slit Mr Ellis’ throat in the kitchen of his Bali villa – face the same charges.

The maximum penalty is death.

Prosecutor Made Dipa Umbara says the dossiers tell of marital disharmony spanning years.

“Regarding motive, the police dossiers are more about cheating and wealth,” he told reporters.

Prosecutors have 20 days to prepare for trial and can extend the deadline, but hope to bring Ms Noor to trial in early February.

Her lawyer Ketut Suwega Arya Dauh says she regrets the crime.

“She did it out of stress and being hurtful because she felt unappreciated as a wife,” he told reporters.

“We’re ready to defend her in the trial.”

Police also handed over physical evidence for the trial, including the plastic and fabric used to wrap Mr Ellis’ body before it was dumped in a rice field.

Mrs Ellis, wearing an orange polo shirt and shorts, hesitated to look as it was displayed.

She is expected to be moved into Bali’s Kerobokan jail to await trial.

It’s alleged Mrs Ellis paid her maid’s boyfriend to kill her wealthy husband in November.

Married for more than 20 years, the couple had two Perth-based sons together.
