Fijian police are investigating the murder of a Victorian woman whose badly decomposed body was found on the side of a road in Fiji on Tuesday evening.

Tracey Ann O’Brien Maw from Shepparton, 180 kilometres from Melbourne, had been missing for some time after travelling to Fiji to visit her boyfriend.

According to a Nine News report, Ms Maw’s body was so badly beaten she had to be identified by a tattoo on her leg.

Ms Maw’s brother travelled to Fiji to locate her after her family was unable to make contact with her.

Police said the case had been classified as an alleged murder but a family member said they were concerned a proper investigation would not be conducted since Ms Maw’s body had already been cremated.
