A young Melbourne woman has alleged a security guard tried to rape her after a beach party in the popular Thai resort town of Phuket.

The woman, who was in Phuket celebrating a family wedding, believes her drink was spiked before the man allegedly tried to rape her on an isolated beach in the early hours of the morning.

The woman, who was left with friends when her husband returned to their hotel room, allegedly began feeling “disoriented” during a beach swim at 3am.

A security guard soon appeared, offering to guide her home and steering her towards a secluded area.

“I was still insisting I want to go this way and before I knew what was happening he put his arm around me and directed me towards the beach, so quickly I didn’t have a chance to react … all of a sudden I was on the beach and he kept pulling me towards the dark coconut palms,” the woman told Thailand’s Phuketwan online news service.

“Before I knew it, he was on me, he was holding me, pushing and pushing. His face was on me, he was kissing me and touching me.”

The woman began screaming and managed to push the man off before he fled.

The woman said she stayed in Thailand to share her story as a warning to other women.

Police are investigating the matter.

The attack comes only two months after the brutal murder of British backpackers Hannah Witheridge and David Miller on the Thai resort island of Koh Tao.
