Vigilantes emerge to fight French clown terror

Imagine an army of Mark Holdens on the loose, terrorising innocents and wreaking havoc on communities.

That’s what parts of France are facing as a 14-year-old becomes the latest person to be arrested in a army of fake, evil clowns terrorising passers-by in France.

The teenager, who was allegedly attempting to attack a woman, is one of many in a group of “armed clowns” wreaking havoc on the general population.

Some of the perpetrators are more than mere pranksters, armed with pistols, knives and baseball bats.

As part of the bizarre phenomenon, police also have anti-clown vigilantes on their radar as citizens take matters into their own hands.

According to the ABC, one reported case involved a woman getting out of her car in a suburb 18 kilometres from Paris and being attacked by two clowns, one of whom was armed with a fake axe.

The pranksters escaped when a passer-by carrying a baseball bat attempted to stop them, but one was later apprehended.

Police spotted him because he still had white make-up covering his face.

In a separate incident just thirty minutes later, twelve people wearing smiling, white masks attacked three youths and stole their mobile phones.

The “evil clown” trend only began in the last month, starting mainly in the north of France.

Last week, a 19-year-old received a six-month suspended jail term last week for threatening passers-by while dressed as a clown.

Members of the clown army have been “mostly spotted outside schools, but also on public roads, in bushes, and in a square,” a police source in northern France said.

“Their targets are often young children or teenagers, but also adults.”
