Boxing Day tsunami family reunited

An Indonesian girl swept away in the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami disaster has been reunited with her family 10 years later, according to her mother.

Raudhatul Jannah was four years old when she and her brother were swept away by tsunami waters, with her parents assuming they were both dead, according to a News Limited report.

The girl was spotted by her uncle in June and was found to be living under the care of an elderly woman in the Aceh Barat Daya district.

The family were reunited on Wednesday in what the girl’s mother, Jamaliah, calls a ‘miracle from God’.

Now aged 14, Raudhatul has given hope to her parents that her older brother may still be alive, saying that they both made it to a nearby island by floating on a plank of wood.

“We will look for him on Banyak Island because we believe he is still alive,” said the mother.

The tsunami claimed the lives of over 230,000 in 14 countries.
