Kylie tops ARIAs

Kylie Minogue’s Kiss Me Once has shot to No.1 on the ARIA albums chart, pushing out GIRL by Pharrell Williams, a collaborator on the pop singer’s 12th studio album.

Kiss Me Once is the first Australian album to make its debut in the top spot this year and Minogue’s fourth album to reach No.1, following Light Years in 2000, Fever in 2001, and X in 2007.

“Big kisses to all my amazing Aussie fans for giving me my fourth #1 album!” the singer said in a statement. “I can’t wait to come home in April to celebrate!”

The album features guests such as Sia Furler, Enrique Iglesias, and Williams, who worked with Minogue on the third track I Was Gonna Cancel.

Williams’ album drops to No.3 this week, with INXS’ compilation The Very Best keeping its No.2 spot.

Other new albums appearing in the top 10 include O Vertigo! (No.4) by Brisbane girl Kate Miller-Heidke, who is touring nationally, and Recess (No.5) by American electronic musician Skrillex.

Foster the People, the American indie-pop trio behind the hit Pumped Up Kicks, also make their debut, landing in eighth place with Supermodel.

Falling a spot to No.6 is the Frozen soundtrack followed by Katy Perry’s Prism, slipping four places to No.7.

Down three places each are Rudimental’s Home at No.9, and Bruno Mars’ Unorthodox Jukebox at No.10.

On the singles chart, the top four places remain the same, with Pharrell Williams’ Happy securing the No.1 spot for an 11th week, Clean Bandit’s Rather Be at No.2, David Guetta’s Shot Me Down at No.3, and Brave by Sara Bareilles in fourth place.

Coldplay’s Magic and Sydney group 5 Seconds of Summer’s She Looks So Perfect climb up the ladder, taking No.5 and No.6 respectively.

New York duo the Chainsmokers, however, are the big movers, rising 23 places to No.7 with #Selfie.

British singer Gabrielle Aplin also made an impressive leap, with The Power of Love rising seven places to No.8.

Kim Cesarion’s Undressed slips a spot to ninth place, while Aloe Blacc’s track The Man jumps up two places to round out the top 10.
