WA Farmers forge ahead with harvest despite wet weather

Some West Australian farmers are forging ahead with harvest despite the recent wet weather.

Cascade farmer Tom Carmody received 55 mm of rain last week but says he’s already back out in the paddock.

He’s replaced just about all his wheeled machinery with tracks and reckons it’s been a good investment this year considering all the wet weather he’s had.

“A little while ago we made the decision to invest in tracks on our tractor and our chaser bin and then we bought a new header that’s got tracks on it, they’ve been a big asset so far,” he says.

But can they walk on water?

“They can walk through it,” he chuckles. “They’re good. We’re harvesting in areas were I can even drive the ute so yeah, they’re pretty good.”

But he says it’s a dirty business harvesting in the mud.

“Yeah they (the headers) look like you’re in a four wheel drive competition or something they’re fairly coated.”
