Constable pulls over accused and lets him go before body of Peter Davis is found

A Perth court has heard a man accused of murdering his former business associate was spoken to by police about a traffic incident shortly before the dead man’s body was found.

Ambrose John Clarke and his brother Xavier are accused of murdering Peter Davis in May 2011.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court trial heard from Mr Davis’ son, who said he saw Ambrose Clarke in a car that rammed his car in a Great Eastern Highway motel carpark.

It was at that location that his father’s body was found.

The court today heard from Senior Constable Peter Hancock who pulled over Ambrose Clarke’s car nearby after it crossed over a traffic island illegally.

He noticed damage to the car and heard over police radio that a similar car had been involved in an incident at a nearby motel.

Constable Hancock told the court he asked Ambrose Clarke whether he knew Peter Davis and he replied yes but that he had not seen him in three years.

The officer said he then let Clarke go.
