Two rescuers who went to help a man swept off rocks in Victoria’s southwest have died after their vessel flipped in the surf on the same day a father and daughter died in a boating accident in South Australia.

A man was taking photos from a rock ledge when he was swept out into the ocean at the mouth of the Sherbrook River at Port Campbell about 10.40am on Sunday.

“A rescue boat was deployed to assist the swimmer, which has flipped in the surf and thrown the three occupants into the water,” Victoria Police said.

Two male rescuers were found in the water and declared dead at the scene.

The third rescuer was flown to hospital with serious injuries, while the the male swimmer has been taken to hospital in a stable condition.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Meanwhile, the bodies of a 35-year-old man and his five-year-old daughter were found in waters off the coast of South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula.

The ABC reported that police said the pair, who were from Adelaide, were swept from rocks at Cape Carnot – about 40 kilometres south of Port Lincoln about 1.30pm Sunday, and that their bodies were spotted from the air.

It reported further that Police Helicopter Sea Rescue Squadron was reported to be helping with the search, and that Port Lincoln police would prepare a report for the coroner.
