An inmate at Victoria’s Barwon Prison has been stabbed, with convicted killer and rapist Adrian Bayley named as the victim.

Corrections Victoria on Friday confirmed that a prisoner “received minor injuries following an incident” and was treated at the scene.

Numerous media outlets report a fork was used to stab Bayley on Thursday, who is serving at least 40 years in jail for the 2012 killing of Jill Meagher.

A fellow inmate reportedly stabbed Bayley, according to Fairfax.

Jill Meagher, 29, who worked at the ABC in Melbourne, was raped and murdered whilst walking home from a local inner Melbourne pub in Brunswick on September 22, 2012.

Her body was discovered six days later buried in a shallow grave located in Gisborne, in Melbourne’s north west.

Bayley was on parole at the time of the attack and stalked her as she walked home. His image was later captured on CCTV located inside a bridal shop on Sydney Road and the vision was crucial in targeting and arresting Bayley.

Her case attracted widespread grief and outrage across Australia and Ireland and brought about changes to the state’s parole system.

Bailey has reportedly been serving his sentence in the Hoya unit, a protection unit for prisoners at high risk of being attacked, when he was injured, according to Fairfax.

He will be eligible for parole in 2055.
