A distracted driver has received multiple fines for watching porn on his phone while driving.

Victoria Police confirmed the man from West Gippsland in eastern Victoria was observed by an off-duty officer driving along the Monash Freeway about 5.30am on November 23.

Due to the darkness at that time of the morning, the police officer driving next to the car could see what the phone was broadcasting as the man had the phone mounted to the dashboard.

The officer recorded the details of the car, with police speaking to the man, 50, on Saturday afternoon.

Police said the man had made full admissions about the incident, which Sergeant James Robbins said presented an interesting case.

“After 17 years in this job I thought I had seen it all,” Sgt Robbins said.

“This sort of behaviour simply isn’t acceptable when behind the wheel.

“We want everyone to be sitting at Christmas lunch this year, and silly behaviour like this is all too often means there will be an empty seat and another life lost”.

The man received two infringement notices – one for using a mobile phone while driving ($466 and four demerit points) and one for offensive behaviour ($622).
