Victorian government minister and father of five John Eren is expected to make a full recovery after a heart attack in hospital on Father’s Day.

The 52-year-old sports minister underwent surgery on Sunday following the heart attack, Premier Daniel Andrews said in a statement.

“Earlier today, he was taken to Geelong University Hospital with discomfort and suffered a heart attack at the hospital,” the statement says.

“John has undergone surgery to insert a stent and remains in a stable condition. He’s expected to make a full recovery.

“I offer every support and our best wishes to John, his wife Geraldine and their children during this time,” Mr Andrews said.

Mr Eren lives in the Geelong area with his wife and five children.

The Turkish-born Labor member for Lara was first elected to state parliament in 2002.

Mr Eren holds the ministerial portfolios of tourism and major events, sport, and veterans.

Arrangements for someone to act in his place while he is on sick leave will be announced shortly, the premier’s statement said.
