A warrant has been issued for a man who allegedly resisted arrest and rammed two police cars before speeding off and later dumping his car in Melbourne’s CBD.

Police said they believed 26-year-old Sean Paul Murphy, of no fixed address, was responsible for the incident on Tuesday afternoon.

They said they tried to arrest Mr Murphy on the corner of A’Beckett and Queen streets after they received reports of a drug deal.

Police alleged he resisted before getting back into his black BMW and left the area.

Officers followed him for a short time before the pursuit was ended, police said.

The car was later spotted on the corner of William and Latrobe streets before being found on Downie Street but the driver was not there.

Police said Mr Murphy was last seen on the corner of Flinders Lane and Spencer Street getting into a taxi.

An officer was injured in the incident but no members of the public were hurt, police said.

Police released photos of Mr Murphy in the hope somebody knew where he was and could notify them.

Investigators said he was allegedly armed with a firearm during the incident and warned the public to call Triple-0 if they saw him.
