Carjacking leaves man critical

A carjacking in Port Melbourne on Wednesday night has left a man in a critical condition.

According to Victoria Police, a man going to his car allegedly saw another man trying to steal his Volkswagen on Bay Street at around 8:30pm.

“The victim, believed to be in his 30s, went to his car and tried to enter through the back door in an attempt to stop the offender,” Senior Constable West told Fairfax Media.

“The offender drove the car off and the victim was wedged between a pole and the back door.

“He fell from the vehicle and the offender drove the car around a corner before dumping it and fleeing.”

The victim has been taken to hospital in a critical condition.
