Policeman bashed by five

A police officer is in a serious condition in hospital after allegedly being bashed by the five occupants of a car pulled over in Campbellfield, in Melbourne’s north.

Victoria Police said two officers intercepted a silver Commodore after spotting sparks coming from one of the vehicle’s wheels at about midnight on Lara Way.

They said they spoke to the five men inside, and when one of the officers returned to the police car for a breath testing unit they attacked his colleague.

The Senior Constable is in hospital with serious injuries to his face and leg.

The five men then fled inside a nearby building and were arrested some time later at the scene.

Police said the men, from Roxburgh Park, Meadow Heights, Craigieburn, Campbellfield in Victoria, and Rossmore in NSW, were all aged in their 20s and had been released pending further enquiries.
