Masa Vukotic killer pleads guilty

Melbourne man Sean Price has pleaded guilty to the murder of schoolgirl Masa Vukotic.

Price, 31, from Albion, appeared briefly via videolink in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday morning, where he pleaded guilty to killing the 17-year-old girl from Doncaster in Melbourne’s east.

Ms Vukotic’s body was found with stab wounds near a reserve in Doncaster on March 17.

Neighbours called triple-0 after they heard screaming, but paramedics were unable to revive the girl, who had been stabbed in the upper body.

Price also pleaded guilty to robbery following a violent crime spree in Sunshine several days after the killing.

A number of assault charges were withdrawn.

He pleaded not guilty to the rape of a woman in a bookshop around the same time.

Earlier prosecutors told the court he would plead guilty to the rape charge, but when he was asked he changed his plea to not guilty.

Accused complains case was ‘sensationalised’

Slavoljub Vukotic, Masa’s father, has been in court every time his daughter’s killer has appeared, and on Monday he barely took his eyes off Price throughout the hearing.

Mr Vukotic shook his head as Price pleaded guilty and did not comment as he left the court after the hearing.

Shortly after pleading guilty, Price ranted about conspiracies in a dramatic outburst to the court, prompting Magistrate Charlie Rozencwajg to ask if the sound to the video link could be turned off.

Price became increasingly agitated as he referred to “bullshit legal terminology” and questioned the media’s reporting of his crimes and talked over Mr Rozencwajg.

The rant continued for more than a minute, as Price complained that his case had been “sensationalised”, before the video link connection was cut.

At least one woman in the court was in tears during the outburst.

Price was directed to face the Supreme Court for a plea hearing at a later date.
