Baby hurt in forklift accident

A baby boy is fighting for his life after being struck by a forklift while crawling on the floor of a Geelong automotive business.

The nine-month-old boy’s father was at the wheel of the forklift at the Blackley Automotive business when the accident happened on Saturday.

A Royal Children’s Hospital spokeswoman confirmed the boy underwent surgery on Sunday morning but said his condition was unchanged.

“The baby is still in a critical condition and that has remained unchanged for some time,” she said.

A witness who was in a neighbouring workshop when the accident happened said the child’s father was devastated by what had occurred.

“I saw (the boy’s dad) running out the front. The look on his face was just devastating,” Varian Hancock told News Corp Australia.

The Victorian WorkCover Authority and Victoria Police are investigating.

Four children and their parents may have been living at the automotive restoration business after falling on hard times, News Corp is reporting.
