Victorian student in armpit shaving shame

Victorian student has been left traumatised after her teacher shaved her armpits in class.

The 14-year-old girl’s mother said her daughter was “extremely upset” after her armpits were shaved in front of two other girls, according to a report by The Age.

The girl’s teacher said that she had the right to shave her as it was part of the curriculum.

The teenager, who has a disability, had been enrolled in a life skills program at a specialist school.

The school teaches disabled students independent living skills.

The girl’s teacher told her mother that she would get picked on if she didn’t shave.

“I didn’t understand why they had to do it,” Ms Woods told radio station 3AW on Thursday.

“That’s invading her rights as a person to decide whether or not she wants to get it done or not.”

School principal Libby Hosking said that parents were told about the inclusion of shaving in the life skills program.

“We’re very concerned and regret that the family and the child were very upset,” Ms Hosking said in an interview with The Age.
