Arrest ends marathon Melbourne siege

Updated 8am.

An 18 hour siege in Melbourne’s south-east has come to an end with the man giving himself up just before 7.30am.

Police were called to Elm Grove in Parkdale around 1:30pm yesterday, amid reports a 53-year-old man was threatening self harm.

He barricaded himself inside the property.

A police officer was injured when a bottle containing a flammable liquid was thrown from the unit and hit him on the leg.

Police say the officer had to be taken to hospital with burns after a bottle of flammable liquid was thrown at his leg in Elm Grove.

Neighbour Alice McLaren said she heard a big commotion.

“I was just sitting in my room and I heard the police walkie-talkies going off and I came out and there were one or two police cars and suddenly there was just an influx. Police cars, fire trucks, ambulance, the works,” she said.
