More talks urged on future of freight terminal site

The Nationals’ Member for Lowan, Hugh Delahunty, says so far there are no Victorian Government specific future plans for an old Horsham freight terminal.

Qube Logistics is pulling out of Horsham’s Mill Street freight terminal this week, ending its local rail operations, after it could not reach a deal with the operator of the Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal.

Mr Delahunty says while he is disappointed Qube’s exit from the terminal will mean more freight on road, having it closed for good is a positive step.

He says more consultation is needed before a decision can be made on its future.

“At this stage no discussion has been talked about what will happen,” he said.

“Obviously we’ll be in consultation with the council here and the community to see what can happen.

“It is still a live railway line, there’s trains going through there on a daily basis, so it’s important what we do with that site is compatible with the rail usage of that land.”
