Mildura council to decide on truck wash plans

The Mildura council says a proposed truck wash in the northern Mallee could go ahead with careful management to minimise disturbances in the community.

The plans for a two-bay truck wash on Britt Street at the Ouyen Livestock Exchange have caused some community concern.

The facility would cater for between 10 to 20 vehicles on sale days.

At a public forum last month, objectors indicated they were not against the proposed development itself but the location.

There are also worries about noise, odour and contaminated run-off entering the public drainage system.

The Mildura council has identified there are possible conflicts with residential development but says the effects can be reduced with measures such as sound barriers.

The council will decide whether to grant notice to approve the plans at this afternoon’s meeting.

It says if it does give the proposal the green light, the construction of sound barriers would be compulsory.
