Search underway for light plane which failed to arrive in Victoria
The search for a light plane that has disappeared on a flight from New South Wales to Victoria has been reduced to one aircraft overnight.
The single-engine Cessna left Moruya on the NSW far south coast for Mangalore, north of Melbourne, but nothing has been heard from the pilot, who was the only person on board.
Sam Cardwell of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority says five aircraft had been searching along the plane’s planned route
“They covered a lot of ground, but since the aircraft was not heard from since it left Moruya, the potential search area is quite a long distance,” he said.
Two planes and three helicopters were to resume the search at first light.
