Mulder at odds with council on service road decision

Victoria’s Transport Minister has intervened in a dispute about the use of a highway service road in Marong.

People in the town successfully argued earlier this year for the Bendigo council to allow two-way traffic along the Calder Alternate Highway service road.

However, in a report to tonight’s meeting, council staff say Minister Terry Mulder has decided the original VicRoads’ proposal for one-way access is appropriate.

Staff are recommending the council review its previous decision.

The council will also consider plans to rezone land so the Heathcote supermarket can be expanded.

Three objections to the move have been withdrawn and a 56-lot subdivision proposed for Junortoun will be debated tonight.

There have been five objections to the Cassinia Drive plans, including a petition with seven signatures.
