Council to decide on seeking Woodend plan feedback

The Macedon Ranges Shire will decide tonight whether to ask for public comment on a keenly anticipated planning document for Woodend.

The council has been working on the Woodend Town Structure Plan since the middle of last year.

The document tries to guide population growth and development for the next 20 years, while protecting the town’s distinct village character and town boundary.

The council has come under fire in the past about planning rules for Woodend because of residents’ fears about a developer’s plans to build a big housing estate on the edge of the town.

However, in their report to tonight’s council meeting, shire staff say they have received very positive and helpful comments on its latest draft document.

They propose releasing the plan for public exhibition for six weeks.
