Liberals claim letter evidence of a Labor-Greens war

The State Opposition’s touting a letter written by the Economic Development Minister David O’Byrne as proof of a war between Labor and the Greens.

In April, Mr O’Byrne wrote to a constituent promising to fight the Sustainable Transport Minister Nick McKim’s decision to scrap a bus route in Snug.

News of the letter comes 3 days after Mr O’Byrne signed a union petition attacking Mr McKim’s handling of a child care centre closure at Lindisfarne.

Opposition spokesman Matthew Groom says the two incidents show Labor’s power-sharing deal with the Greens has collapsed.

“This is further evidence of a government in internal conflict,” he said.

“The Cold War is over. Labor and the Greens are now engaged in open conflict.

“And what it shows it that they’re more focussed on their own self-interest than they are on addressing the concerns of Tasmanians.”
