South Australia has recorded another three cases of coronavirus, all of them travellers who have recently returned from overseas.

SA Health revealed the new cases in a statement on Wednesday morning, with the total number of active COVID-19 cases in the state now sitting at eight.

The latest include a man in his 30s, a man in his 50s and a child — all of whom are recently returned international travellers who tested positive on their day-one tests.

All three have been in a medi-hotel since their arrival.

The new cases add to others reported over the Christmas holiday period — one of whom tested positive for a new strain of the virus linked to the UK.

On Sunday, authorities revealed that genomic testing of a previously reported case confirmed they were carrying the highly-contagious variant.

“The case is carrying the variant of COVID-19 which has emerged in South East England,” SA Health said.

“This individual has also been transferred from a medi-hotel to the Royal Adelaide Hospital because they have required treatment but [is] also in a stable condition.

“There is no evidence that this variant of the virus causes more severe disease.”

Another case — a man in his 30s, who is also in a medi-hotel — was revealed on Monday, while two inactive cases in returned travellers were reported on Christmas Day.

Two people remain in hospital with the virus, and there have been 10 new cases identified in the past week, including a man who travelled into the state from New South Wales via Victoria.

The latest cases take the state’s total to 575 since the pandemic began.

Health authorities announced an end to the state’s Parafield cluster last week, after more than 28 days passed since the last case linked to that outbreak entered quarantine.

NSW health authorities today revealed another 18 positive COVID-19 infections, including six linked to what is being referred to as the “Croydon cluster”.
