Adelaide’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital was without power for half an hour on Tuesday afternoon.

Non-urgent ambulance arrivals have been diverted to the Lyell McEwin and Flinders hospitals while some elective surgeries scheduled for the afternoon were postponed.

In a statement, the Women’s and Children’s Health Network said there were “no adverse patient outcomes”.

“Two surgeries were under way during the disruption but were successfully completed and both patients are recovering well,” a spokeswoman said.

Power was cut at 12.30pm.

Some areas were affected for several minutes, while other areas were affected for up to 30 minutes.

“The disruption affected some clinical areas in the Queen Victoria and Rogerson buildings, including the emergency department and operating theatres,” the spokeswoman said.

She said a back-up generator was “successfully tested last week”.

“An investigation is now under way to determine the cause of the interruption,” she said.

The Royal Adelaide Hospital suffered a blackout in February, disrupting two operations and delaying radiotherapy and dialysis treatment.

A report found two generators ran out of fuel when they were being tested by the private consortium which manages the hospital.

The whole of South Australia was plunged into darkness during a blackout in September 2016.
