A convicted killer who escaped from a prison pre-release centre in Adelaide earlier this month has been found dead.

Police said 37-year-old Tara Kehoe was found in the city’s southern suburbs shortly after she died on Saturday morning.

Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

Kehoe was one of five teenagers convicted for the torture and murder of Tracey Muzyk, 18, in December 1996.

Ms Muzyk’s body was found at the West Lakes High School oval.

She had been repeatedly punched and kicked, had boiling water tipped over her and was burned with cigarettes as well as having mace sprayed into her eyes.

She was later showered and dressed and walked to a nearby paddock, where she was stabbed and strangled.

Kehoe was sentenced to serve an 18-year non-parole period, but in 2000 had her sentence reduced to 15-and-a-half years.

At the time of her escape, Kehoe was a low-risk prisoner in the pre-release centre at the Adelaide Women’s Prison and was participating in an external work program.

Her disappearance became evident when she was unaccounted for at a distribution centre near Fosters Road in Northfield on October 7.
