The son of former Adelaide Crows coach Phil Walsh has pleaded not guilty to the murder of his father at his first appearance in the Supreme Court.

Cy Walsh is alleged to have murdered his father at the Walsh family home in Adelaide in July last year.

He had previously pleaded not guilty in the Adelaide Magistrates’ Court because of mental incompetence.

Walsh will return to court in April, when it will consider three reports in respect to his mental wellbeing.

• Cy Walsh pleads not guilty
• Phil Walsh remembered at Adelaide Oval memorial
• ‘Our hearts are broken’: Walsh family breaks silence

The then Crows coach, aged 55, died from multiple stab wounds at his house at Somerton Park in Adelaide’s western suburbs.

A previous hearing was told some forensic evidence remained outstanding and Cy Walsh’s hair and blood were being tested for presence of drugs.

Aspects of the case remained suppressed by the court.

If the court accepted Walsh was not guilty due to mental incompetence but found the objective elements of the crime proved, it would consider a limiting term of supervision or detention under a mental health licence.
