Bones found in fireplace showed signs of trauma, prosecutors tell court

A man charged after human bones were found at his home in South Australia’s mid north has been refused bail.

Christopher Scott, 25, appeared in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court via videolink from Port Pirie charged with failing to report a death.

Police allege they found a partial human skeleton in a tub placed inside a fireplace during a search of Scott’s home in Terowie, about 220 kilometres north of Adelaide, yesterday.

Prosecutors told the court preliminary investigations have found the victim was a male, under the age of 30 and had clear signs of trauma but are yet to determine the exact age of the bones.

Scott had allegedly been living at the property for five years.

Prosecutors argued Scott could face more serious charges as investigations continue, could interfere with witnesses and was a potential flight risk.

Magistrate Peter Snopek agreed and said there was not a suitable address for home detention bail at the current time.

He remanded Scott to reappear in court next month.
