Adelaide police say they are seeking five young men over an attack on a bus driver.

He needed stitches for a cut lip and got a swollen eye after he was attacked at a bus stop in Hanson Road at Athol Park last Sunday, about 10:10pm.

Police have released security vision of those being sought over the assault.

They described the five young men as being of African appearance.

Police said the driver had told the men they needed to buy tickets before riding on the bus.
