Bank account robbed in remote access scam

A woman’s bank account has been robbed after she allowed a telephone caller remote access to her computer.

Adelaide police said the woman, 69, from Bridgewater got a phone call earlier this month from a man claiming to be from Microsoft.

He told her he could install required updates on her computer and got her to click on a link which allowed remote access.

Police said that days later the woman was contacted by her bank to tell her an account had been debited several thousand dollars.

They are investigating and have warned other people to report such callers.
