Police have released CCTV of Toyah Cordingley at a popular market in Cairns hours before she was killed, in the hope of jogging the memories of people who may have seen her.

The 24-year-old’s body was found on Monday last week at Wangetti Beach, north of the city.

Police believe she was killed at the beach on Sunday October 21 while taking her dog for a walk.

The video shows Ms Cordingley crossing at the Sheridan Street intersection at about 12.40pm that day.

Detective Inspector Sonia Smith said detectives released the footage because they still wanted to hear from anyone who saw Ms Cordingley at Rusty’s Market on Sunday and who had not yet spoken to police.

“Toyah was wearing a light-coloured crocheted singlet top and carrying a large, striped, colourful bag when she was at Rusty’s Markets, and she was there for just over half an hour,” Inspector Smith said.

“It is possible that Toyah changed clothes after leaving the markets.”

Police also released an image of the 2009 light blue Mitsubishi Lancer sedan she was driving, which was found parked in the southern car park at Wangetti Beach on Sunday afternoon.

The car’s numberplate is TOY 146.

Anyone who saw the car on October 21 between noon and 7pm is being asked to contact police.

Police have also been seeking information from a family thought to have left the beach at 1.30pm that day.

Inspector Smith said police were particularly looking for information about Ms Cordingley’s movements shortly before her death early that afternoon.

“We’re still keen to speak to a family who we’ve identified have been at the southern car park at Wangetti Beach, and we know they left the car park at about 1.20pm and that they interacted with another couple at the southern car park. The other couple had a sausage dog,” she said.

“This terrible crime has impacted the community on many levels and we are heartened by the support we have received so far, but we continue to appeal for more help.

“Crime Stoppers and Policelink have obtained a lot of information from the public, so far we’ve received more than 530 Crime Stopper files.

“We also had a lot of support from the community at our Crime Stoppers displays at Rusty’s Markets and Wangetti Beach over the weekend.”
