A man has had part of his ear bitten off during a brawl in Surfers Paradise.

Queensland Police were called to break up a fight between two groups of men in Orchid Avenue about 2:20am.

A number of men were detained at the scene.

During the fight, a man had a small part of the top of his ear bitten off.

He was taken to hospital for treatment.

A 25-year-old man from Victoria was charged with grievous bodily harm and will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court, while a 22-year-old Parkwood man was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on January 25.
