A Queensland man who shot his former partner dead in a Gold Coast McDonald’s was serving a two-year domestic violence order, police have confirmed.
Steven Lock, 57, ended the life of his 49-year-old ex-partner Karina Lock in front of shocked diners at the Helensvale restaurant on Thursday, before turning the gun on himself.

He was taken to hospital with critical head injuries and doctors switched off his life support on Friday afternoon.
Ms Lock had reportedly moved to the Gold Coast just weeks before her death to start a new life with her youngest daughter.
Witnesses have recalled seeing the pair arguing in a car before she fled into the restaurant and yelled that Lock was “crazy” and was trying to kill her.
The Maryborough Magistrates Court issued a domestic violence order against Lock in December 2013, which would have expired in December this year, a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said on Saturday.
“There were no reported breaches during that time.”
Ms Lock’s death was one of a series of flagrant domestic violence incidents this week that left the state reeling and political leaders vowing to prioritise the issue.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has promised to expedite reforms that were recommended by a 359-page domestic violence report handed down in February.
Another woman, 24-year-old Tara Brown, died in hospital after she was allegedly beaten by her former partner while trapped in her crashed car at Molendinar on Tuesday morning.
Lionel Patea, a 24-year-old ex-Bandido bikie, had allegedly run Ms Brown off the road in his Jeep.
A third woman, 44, is recovering in hospital after being attacked with a machete in a street in Wacol, southwest of Brisbane, allegedly by her former partner.
A 52-year-old man is also in custody charged with murdering his six-year-old daughter.
