‘Mummy and Daddy are dead’

Neighbours of a five-year-old boy orphaned by a double murder on the Gold Coast say he didn’t really understand his parents were dead after spending up to a day alone with their bodies.

The boy’s parents, Renee Carter, 39, and Corey Croft, 43, were allegedly stabbed to death about 8pm on Tuesday night by Ms Carter’s ex-husband, Christopher Robert Carter, 36.

The child was discovered unharmed but alone in the Upper Coomera home on Wednesday afternoon by an aunt.

Neighbours Nepia and Megan Kino have recalled the heartbreaking interaction they had with the boy after he emerged from the house.

He told the pair: “Mummy and Daddy are dead and there’s blood everywhere,” News Corp Australia reported.

“I’m going to take them to hospital to fix their cuts so they can get better.”

Mrs Kino said he didn’t really understand that they were dead.

Police are confident the boy did not witness the deaths.

Carter appeared briefly at the Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday charge with murder and the matter was adjourned until March 27.

He was remanded in custody.

The Australian Defence Force has confirmed Carter was a member of the army.
